Survey Data Technician
M&S Engineering, LLC is seeking a qualified candidate for our Survey Data Technician position at The Woodlands, Texas location.
This position will report to the office and is not remote.
Responsibilities:
- Compile data necessary to stake projects for construction using engineering plans.
- Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and linked tracings.
- Perform calculations to determine earth curvature corrections, atmospheric impacts on measurements, traverse closures and adjustments, azimuths, level runs, and placement of markers.
- Operate and manage land-information computer systems, performing tasks such as storing data, making inquiries, and producing plots and reports.
- Lay out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
- Compare survey computations with applicable standards in order to determine adequacy of data.
- Collect data needed to carry out new surveys, using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant data.
- Prepare topographical and contour maps of land surveyed, including site features and other relevant information such as charts, drawings, and survey notes.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma/GED required, Associates in Survey/Mapping preferred.
- Surveyor-in-training (S.I.T.) certification or looking to get Certified is preferred.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required. NO EXCEPTIONS
- Working knowledge of either/or AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble Business Center, or MicroStation is preferred.
- Experience with boundary, topographic, as-built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking, staking of electric distribution lines, staking electric transmission lines is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of total station, GPS and data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies is a plus.
- Able to perform well with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of overhead and underground utilities, including power lines, is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
